Author: Jessica Sorensen
There are those who don’t get luck handed to them on a shiny platter, who end up in the wrong place at the wrong time, who don’t get saved.
Luck was not on Callie’s side the day of her twelfth birthday when everything was stolen from her. After it’s all over, she locks up her feelings and vows never to tell anyone what happened. Six years later her painful past consumes her life and most days it’s a struggle just to breathe.
For as long as Kayden can remember, suffering in silence was the only way to survive life. As long as he did what he was told, everything was okay. One night, after making a terrible mistake, it seems like his life might be over. Luck was on his side, though, when Callie coincidentally is in the right place at the right time and saves him.
Now he can’t stop thinking about the girl he saw at school, but never really knew. When he ends up at the same college as Callie, he does everything he can to try to get to know her. But Callie is reserved and closed off. The more he tries to be part of her life, the more he realizes Callie might need to be saved.

Callie and Kayden are two people who have been through a Hell LOT and all I wanted, was to give them a giant hug. I felt their pain as it was my own. This is a beautiful, emotional and heart breaking story. I think the message the book tries to convey is that horrible things happen, things that you can't imagine but there is always hope. There is light at the end of the tunnel, all you have to do, is to keep moving forward. It's hard and scary but it needs to be done.
“In the existence of our lives, there is a single coincidence that brings us together and for a moment, our hearts beat as one.”
Callie and Kayden, did in many ways, move forward. It's really a great coincidence that they met because I think they can save each other and together they can help themselves too.
I really like the writing. I came to care for the characters and felt a myriad of emotions. I was shouting at the book. It's one of those book that you close and feel exhausted because it's taken you on this ride and it took you by surprise and you weren't sure how to feel and then when it ended, all the emotions came rushing back. (Did that make sense? Maybe the gif will help.)
This is my first book by the author and I am super impressed. Going to read all her books now. Every moment of the book felt real to me. The romance progresses slowly and I think that was the way to go because both the characters have been through so much that it only makes sense that they will take time to trust and begin again. The book is intense, amazing and I recommend you to read it if you look for substance in a book.
It's sad that there is so much evil in the world. But there is good too. Like Seth, he was the best friend anyone could ask for her. No judgement, no pressure. He was always there was Callie and I'm glad she found him. He pushed her to move ahead. He made her better and sometimes all you need is a friend who understands.
I don't like cliffhangers. Really, it's painful to be so involved in a book and then for it to end on such a note. NO! It's not cool. I WANT the next book. I'm going to stalk the author on twitter now. I need to know when the sequel comes out. I thought it was a standalone. If it were up to me I would ban cliffhangers.
