WinterHaven Sleigh Tour: Winter Book Review + Giveaway!

Today I am excited to join WinterHaven Sleigh Tour hosted by WinterHaven Books. This week, I am posting my choice of Winter Book Review! To see who else is on the sleigh, go to WinterHaven Sleigh Tour for a list of participating blogs.

“I’ve left some clues for you.
If you want them, turn the page.
If you don’t, put the book back on the shelf, please.”

So begins the latest whirlwind romance from the bestselling authors ofNick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist. Lily has left a red notebook full of challenges on a favorite bookstore shelf, waiting for just the right guy to come along and accept its dares. But is Dash that right guy? Or are Dash and Lily only destined to trade dares, dreams, and desires in the notebook they pass back and forth at locations across New York? Could their in-person selves possibly connect as well as their notebook versions? Or will they be a comic mismatch of disastrous proportions?

REVIEW:
The plot of the book is really cool and fun to read. I loved the dares and the idea of finding love through correspondence via letters or in this case a red moleskin notebook, sounds so mysterious and fun. Maybe in reality it's not that fun. I mean the guy could turn out to be a serial killer or something, right? What I'm trying to say is that I'm not going to put a notebook filled with dares to find my Dash. Well, unless I see some really cute guy in my library. (That never happens)

I think Levithan's Dash is kind of awesome. He is snarly and intelligent and I guess I have a thing for such kind of people, considering my friends are like that.  I really like that he wants an OED for Christmas.  I liked his quirky ways and sarcastic lines.
Lily is awesome too. A little weird and odd, yes, but she is just so comfortable with who she is and that is the best thing a girl can be. I would like to be friends with her.
Both the characters are relate-able and I seriously appreciate that both of them had such love and respect for books.

The romance is not corny or cheesy. It's devoid of cliches (thankfully!) but you need to have a dictionary nearby to go through this book. (too many big word) I think the authors are trying a little too hard to appear smart. (Tone it down a little bit, will ya?) Though that's not at all, a bad thing, especially because without the amazing writing the book would not be what it is.

I want to mention all my favorite quotes but I can't because I cannot post the entire book here as that would probably infringe a variety of copyright laws. So my suggestion is to read the book on your own. It's a perfect book to snuggle with on Christmas.

*Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!*

"You think fairy tales are only for girls? Here's a hint - ask yourself who wrote them. I assure you, it wasn't just the women. It's the great male fantasy - all it takes is one dance to know that she's the one. All it takes is the sound of her song from the tower, or a look at her sleeping face. And right away you know - this is the girl in your head, sleeping or dancing or singing in front of you. Yes, girls want their princes, but boys want their princesses just as much. And they don't want a very long courtships. They want to know immediately."

As part of the festivities, WinterHaven Books is hosting an international giveaway that will include a copy of Dash & Lily's Book of Dares (Signed by Levithan and Cohn) and a copy of Let it Snow to four lucky winners. Good luck and Happy Holidays!

  3. Yay!! Another person who loved this boo kjust as much as I did! I do have to say that Dash is a little too smart, but that's totally okay, since he's so interesting as a character.

  5. I really enjoyed this one, too. I loved it that everyone referred to Dash as "Snarly" he was too funny. I loved the baby catching scene, I laughed hysterically. Great review! We participated in this tour as well. Such a great idea. :)

  6. I am glad that I found this blog. My kids always ask me if I heard of a new book to download. They are too busy working and reading is their own time, but looking for books is not.
