Book Review: Some Girls Are

Climbing to the top of the social ladder is hard--falling from it is even harder.  Regina Afton used to be a member of the Fearsome Fivesome, an all-girl clique both feared and revered by the students at Hallowell High... until vicious rumors about her and her best friend's boyfriend start going around.  Now Regina's been "frozen out" and her ex-best friends are out for revenge.  If Regina was guilty, it would be one thing, but the rumors are far from the terrifying truth and the bullying is getting more intense by the day.  She takes solace in the company of Michael Hayden, a misfit with a tragic past who she herself used to bully.  Friendship doesn't come easily for these onetime enemies, and as Regina works hard to make amends for her past, she realizes Michael could be more than just a friend... if threats from the Fearsome Foursome don't break them both first.

Karma is a bitch!!
Regina Afton was popular and mean. She together with Anna and her other friends destroyed many lives.  But now she faces Anna's wrath and gets a taste of her own medicine though for no fault of her own. Anna's boyfriend tried to rape her. But everyone thinks they had sex and now Anna wants revenge.

I guess, "What goes around comes around." right?

I didn't like Regina at first. I don't think anyone will. She ruined some lives. If I read a book from Liz's or Michael's POV I would probably hate her. And that is the best part about the book. Summers was brave in writing a story where the protagonist is not goody-two-shoes. Regina is a complex character. She did what she did and the question is can you still forgive her?
Honestly, I am not sure. Though as the story progresses I feel more sympathetic towards her.
What happens to her is not right. Like Michael says, "Nobody deserves that." But how she handles it is not right either.

This book is uncomfortable. You are in the head of a girl who was mean to people around her and now she is the victim. I felt her pain, her anger but some part in me also felt like she deserved it.

I liked the book. I don't think I enjoyed it. But I approve that the author gave no excuse for her characters.
Some girls are mean....!!

I liked the book but I don't think I would be reading it again.
The ending could be better...more hopeful, perhaps.

“Tell Liz,' I say, 'the mean girl totally got what she deserved in the end.”

“I think some girls are just fucked up.
